Was doing a fink update (OS X 10.6.8) according to the scottlab page.
Everything I had was in sw64, so used this info: http://scottlab.ucsc.edu/~wgscott/xtal/wiki/index.php/Sources.list_for_10.6_intel_only)
with
/sw64/etc/apt/sources.list mod of using the
deb http://scottlab.ucsc.edu/fink_intel_10.6_64bit
links
Version installed appeared to be: 0.7.1-pre-4562
Launched COOT. It started up so I could at least see the bird, but crashed here:

I then tried the standalone stable version from Sept 2012, works fine, as far as I can tell.
Just letting you know, not sure how much you are putting into the older snow leopard.
