SIMON GIKANDI, JOHN EDWARD TAYLOR VISITING FELLOW, 18-22 March 2013
Simon gikandi is Robert schirmer professor of English at Princeton
university, and editor of pmla, the journal of the modern languages
association. A leading scholar of postcolonial literature and culture, with
emphasis on Africa, the Caribbean, and the black atlantic, among his many
publications are writing in limbo: modernism and Caribbean literature,
(1992) maps of Englishness: writing identity in the culture of colonialism
(1996), and slavery and the culture of taste (2011). His current project is
this thing called English: the colonized and their books.
