Hi Deb, We have done the same as Hertfordshire - set a corporate equality objective and working with Schools/Faculties to analyse their respective student data by different equality categories with the aim of setting local actions to address under performance where it's relevant.

Hi Deb,
At UH, we have set quite a challenging target to show that we are committed to addressing the differential as part of our equality objectives in 2012. Our objective in this area is:
* Objective 3 - Work towards reducing the differential in degree attainment between White and Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) students by 10 percentage points by 2014/15
We are currently developing a more detailed action plan to make this happen, working with academic colleagues to identify their own objectives in support of the overall strategic one. This may not require specific % targets at a school level at this point in time, however we will keep this under review as we progress with the work.

Subject: ethnicity & attainment
Dear colleagues
SOAS is drafting a new edition of its Learning & Teaching Strategy and we want to include at least one performance indicator around what has become known as "the ethnicity attainment gap". So I wondered whether any other institutions have set PIs in this area of work? If you have would you be willing to share your outcomes and any ideas you may have had for shrinking the gap? Please email me direct on [log in to unmask]
I'm very happy to anonymise the information I get from you and to share a summary with the list as I expect this would be of interest to others.
regards, Deb
