Call for Papers
Special Theme: Workshop on Human Interaction with Intelligent Vehicles

June 23, 2013, Gold Coast, Australia
The Workshop on Human Interaction with Intelligent Vehicles (HI'13) will be co-located with the 2013 IEEE Intelligent
Vehicles Symposium (IV'13), which will take place June 23-26, 2013.
The aim of this workshop is to explore ways in which people will interact with intelligent vehicles. The interface between the driver and car has changed little in the last 100 years yet the number of in-vehicle devices and systems and external distractions which a driver must deal with has increased enormously. The advent of V2X communications, assisted driving and autonomous vehicles lend themselves to the question of just what is the correct driver interface for the intelligent vehicle? How will drivers (does this even make sense in this context?), passengers and pedestrians interact with autonomous vehicles? Over the next decade many vehicles will be equipped with enhanced safety systems based on V2X technology but just how should collision warnings be presented? How should drivers interact with these systems whilst driving? What should the vehicular systems do to reduce driver cognitive load and stress?
The organizing committee of HI'13 invites original research paper and position paper submissions from both academics and practitioners on topics including but not limited to:
* Human-vehicle interaction
* Simulation studies
* Physiological sensing in a vehicular environment
* Field-operational tests and naturalistic driving studies
* Experimental design for Human-vehicle interaction
* New vehicle console designs
Invited Speaker:
Prof. Oliver Carsten
Transport Safety Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds
Instructions for Authors:
The manuscripts will be 6 pages maximum, in standard IEEE double column PDF format. All submissions will be directed to the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society Conference Management System. The workshop code is 6euj9.

Papers will be included in the workshop proceedings in a digital format and will be made available to the participants of all the workshops at the IV'13. Acceptance of a paper is made with the understanding that at least one author will attend the workshop to present the paper. The Institution of Engineering an Technology (IET) will be publishing an edited book based around the contents of this Workshop. Selected Workshop papers will be considered for expansion and publication as book chapters.
