Dear All,
Given that the IRMS’s principle of membership is open to practitioners and professionals at all levels, irrespective of qualification, there is no requirement to specify a set of courses whose graduates are eligible for membership. The courses accredited by ARA are limited to postgraduate qualifications but the number of courses, both undergraduate and postgraduate which offer records management and information management modules is so large that it would be impossible for an organisation of its size to undertake any meaningful accreditation. The IRMS instead chooses to accredit individuals themselves based on not only their qualifications but also their skills, expertise and experience which are if anything more important. Of course, you have to be a member of the IRMS first, before you can become an accredited member, but the same principle applies to most professional membership bodies.
Anildeep - The courses available cover a range of disciplines and use a wide range of learning approaches from distance learning to weekly lectures. I'm afraid you will have to work out what your requirements are, where you are based and what works best for you. They are all worthy of consideration!
Best Wishes,
Paul
Dr Paul Duller
IRMS Training and Development Director

As far as I know courses are not currently accredited by IRMS. They are accredited by the ARA (http://www.archives.org.uk/careers/careers-in-record-management.html) and some by CILIP.

>The Centre for Archive and Information Studies (CAIS) at the University of Dundee offers fully supported distance learning courses leading to a Masters degree in Records Management with Information Rights / Digital Preservation or to a degree in Archives and Records Management. The degrees are designed for anyone working or volunteering in a relevant professional environment. Each component course is written and tutored by expert practitioners and educators and examines recordkeeping theory and legislative imperatives and their practical application. Online discussion boards encourage the exchange of ideas and minimise the potential for isolation (often associated with traditional distance learning programmes).
