Hey Andrew, I may be in the wrong string here but apropos your conversation with Lawrence re lineation and the poet's right, I read The Perfume Factory the other day in your Undercover collection and it stayed with me. Maybe it was the two paragrsph prose poem page structure that helped implant it, not sure. Also words like 'pong'. And mainly the shared experience with the father, a sort of urban legend being built up about the degree of smell expected and how you all went along with it when you were in the vicinity.
In my own case, mum lived near an old gasometer at the foot of the street in Bakewell St, Bendigo. When we could smell the gas, as kids, she'd pass on what her father had said to her - that the smell was good for your nostrils, it broadened your olfactory system - or some such. And we just accepted that. And thought we were being enriched, not assaulted each time.
Wandered a bit here but I like your 'gleeful faints'.
Cheers,
morning cooled Bill
