One point is that Richard was of course a Catholic so there's some interest
in what funeral service will occur in the Anglican cathedral.
And, yes, thanks Mark, I did point that out. A local historian had
suggested it some twenty years ago and it had become
'common knowledge' in the town. To be fair, the historian was mentioned by
the University archaeologists in their press conference yesterday.
It's a rueful footnote to cosmic irony that Richard (who, even without the
Tudor propaganda, was still a multiple murderer, albeit one with a touch of
social conscience) apart from his crimes in life will be responsible for
generations to come for inspiring a population explosion of dull plodding
poems b 'local' poets.
