I work within a large NHS Trust we do empoy a technician, however they do not vaccinate. Mainly due to the fact all the trained nurses are able to vaccinate under a PGD and the technician can only vaccinate if a PSD is given for each person; so we havent gone down that route. The RCN had stated in the past it would not support HCA's administering 'childhood vaccines' although we do not give these to children but to adults our Consultant and our manager do not think it is an appropriate procedure for them to undertake. the technician does not give flu vaccines either mainly because the Dr cant write a PSD for every memeber of staff during this season in the hope of them being vaccinated as we have drop in clinics and walk a bouts around the hospital. So at the moment it remains within the trained nurses domain.
