In the aim of its activities the IHC-FCSH/UNL is organizing the conference Labour and Industry. Crisis and changes – 19th to 20th centuries.
The labour World gained a new dynamic with the emergence of both the Industrial Revolution and the industrialization process. The outcome of new scientific management methods not only had an impact in terms of production and productivity but also at the worker level; imposing forms, methods and rhythms fleeing the traditional logic, breaking and replacing the pre-existing professional connections. This is a large and complex topic, with diverse logics and dynamics like professional training, labour market integration and the, of course, the policies of protection and social integration of the worker.
One should not forget that among all this it is always present the impact of political, economical and social trends becoming, therefore, indispensable to study and analyze the complex questions of labour, industrialisation and industrial development, bearing in mind the impact of the crisis and the solutions presented by the State, the employers and the labour unions.
These are some of the topics that are going to be analyzed in the 2nd Annual Meeting Social Policies which will take place at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Nova University of Lisbon, on May 2nd and 3rd 2013.
