This is a reminder about the forthcoming conference at the Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam, on 5th and 6th February: 'Sustainable Art Communities: Creativity and Policy in the Transnational Caribbean'.
Part of a two-year international project, the conference will explore how the understanding and formation of sustainable community for the Caribbean and its global diaspora may be supported by art practice, curating and museums. It fosters networks of exchange and collaboration among academics, artists, curators and policymakers from the UK and the Netherlands, as well as various countries in the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean and their diaspora.
Confirmed speakers (from Jamaica, Trinidad, Curacao, the United States, Germany and the UK) include:
Roshini Kempadoo, Tirzo Martha, Marlon Griffith, Nicholas Morris, Wayne Modest, Anke Bangma, Alex van Stipriaan, Tessa Jackson, Erica James, Siebe Thissen, Petrina Dacres, Rosemarijn Höfte, Kitty Zijlmans, Leon Wainwright.
Entrance to the conference is free, but places are limited, and so we ask that you please reserve in advance by writing to Adri Felderhof, [log in to unmask]
The second project conference will take place at Iniva, London in October.
'Sustainable Art Communities' is led by Dr Leon Wainwright (The Open University, UK), with Co-Investigator Professor Dr Kitty Zijlmans (Leiden University), and funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC, UK).
