Dear Colleagues,
Apologies for cross posting.
Following a workshop at IUAES 2012 Conference in Naples, we’re looking to
put together an edited book and hopefully publish it. Although we already
have interest from potential contributors, we would like to cast the net as
widely as possible and so welcome new abstracts.
Here you can find a provisional title and an abstract of collection.
Rich Immigrants. Gender, Age and Ethnicity.
Book Abstract
Immigration has been predominantly analyzed from its facet of poorly paid
manual labor. Nevertheless, together with unskilled labor submit to
precarious working conditions abroad, there are other flows of emigrants
such as diplomats, international models, businessmen, university students,
researchers and football players who establish themselves in other
countries temporarily or permanently, in more favorable economic
conditions.
On the other hand, many immigrant laborers that initiate the migratory
process in poorly paid jobs, rise socially over time and became rich,
opening commercial establishments such as ethnic restaurants, internet
shops, nightclubs, etc., and enjoy another style of life and consumption in
the countries chosen. This book includes articles that address these kinds
of migratory paths with an emphasis on analyses that reflect how gender,
class, age, sexual orientation and ethnicity influence these processes.
