We have 2 temporary roles available within the Schools and Colleges department at the RSC. The successful candidates will project manage a range of RSC activities in support of the teaching and learning of chemistry. They will support RSC education activities working with colleagues, member/specialist groups and contractors. The first role (Assessment and Online CPD ref no 13-13) requires someone to project manage the online CPD and Assessment projects within the Learn Chemistry project. You will contribute to RSC curriculum and technology for student assessment, and helping to define RSC provision and support for electronic experimentation.
The second role (Online Experimentation ref no 13-12) requires project management of the Online Experimentation strand within the Learn Chemistry project. Both roles will be situated within the Learn Chemistry Team but would have strong links with the Teaching and Curriculum Team for content input and other departments for technical input. Both roles are for a FTC to December 2014.
Day to day activities
Project manage schools and colleges activities under the guidance of a Programme Manager;
Help and support the Schools and Colleges Team to build and implement a long-term strategy that maintains the RSC as the leading body for the provision of education resources and programmes on the chemical sciences to teachers and students;
Work closely with Programme Managers, Networks, Developers, Designers, Communication Team and other advisors to ensure that all activities meet the needs of the users and conform to RSC standards;
Work with sub-contractors on a day-to-day basis, e.g. education specialists who have been commissioned to write resources or technical developers;
Manage the activities relating to teacher professional development, e.g. Chemistry for Non-Specialists and online training courses;
Contribute to RSC policy relating to teacher professional development.
Skills and qualifications needed
A degree in chemical science is desirable, a related science degree or equivalent is essential.
Good understanding of primary, secondary and tertiary education systems in the UK is essential.
Teaching and/or science communication and/or schools outreach experience is desirable.
Customer focused approach with excellent interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to work effectively as a member of diverse teams and on one's own.
Good project and time management skills.
Excellent IT skills and abilities.
Keen interest in science, scientists and the culture of the Royal Society of Chemistry
