Call for proposals to host the Media, Communication and Cultural Studies Association Annual Conference
The Media, Communication and Cultural Studies Association (MeCCSA) is opening a call for proposals for the hosting and organisation of the annual conference for 2015 or 2016.
The subject association represents all who teach, research or who undertake media practice in Higher Education in media, communications and cultural studies, whether in arts, humanities or social sciences departments.
Following the highly successful MeCCSA conference 2013 held at University of Ulster’s School of Media, Film and Journalism, the next annual MeCCSA conference will be hosted on 8th-10th January 2014, by The Media School, Bournemouth.
Previous MeCCSA conferences have been held at the University of Bedfordshire (2012), University of Salford (2011), London School of Economics (2010); University of Bradford/National Media Museum (2009) and Cardiff University (2008).
(For details of past conferences see http://www.meccsa.org.uk/previous-conferences)
Our annual conference is a valuable opportunity for colleagues to share current research and practice and to debate relevant policy and pedagogic issues. Our conference is also a vibrant event at which colleagues have an opportunity to network and socialise. It provides an opportunity for the host institution to organise a major annual conference that addresses the interests and creativity of MeCCSA’s community and also reflects the identity and expertise of the host university. MeCCSA’s Executive Committee therefore remains closely associated in a supervisory and advisory capacity with the overall planning and delivery of the conference and of course retains overall responsibility for the Conference.
The Executive Committee of MeCCSA has developed a general set of guidelines for colleagues interested in proposing their organization of such a conference. This call is the initial stage of the process whereby interested members are asked to express their interest in hosting future conferences. This expression of interest should be framed in a proposal sent to Professor Sue Thornham, Chair of MeCCSA, [log in to unmask] , copied to Professor Heather Nunn, Vice-Chair of MeCCSA, [log in to unmask]
The proposal should include the general details outlined in the guidelines on the MeCCSA website at: http://www.meccsa.org.uk/conference/upcoming/meccsa-conference-proposal-guidelines
The proposal will be considered at the MeCCSA Executive Committee meeting following receipt of all proposals, during which a host for the next conference will be selected. We are also keen to plan for subsequent conferences and therefore happy to consider proposals for subsequent years.
The proposal will include the proposed host’s general overview of the event including:
§ the planned location, institutional support and their organisational capacity
§ one or more key organisational figures and ideally an outline of the conference team
§ a draft financial plan
We look forward to receiving proposals from interested parties. Responses to be sent by the end of March 2013 please.
The MeCCSA Executive Committee
