Abstract
Last year, we commemorated the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic but the concern for maritime safety and the need for it remain current. International shipping accounts for much of the world trade and the vessels plying our seas and their sizes have grown dramatically. The nature of the vessels and the cargo they carry has also changed significantly during the last Century. Next year we will, very appropriately, celebrate the 100th anniversary of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) which has done much to address issues of shipping and navigation. The seminar focuses on the work of Competent International Organisation(s) in this area. A self-confessed fan of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the speaker will inevitably make references to this ‘the revolution in the oceans’ and other developments that have contributed to a better marine space.

He has attended, at various times, the Indian Institute of Technology, International Ocean Institute, Aachen Technical University, Dalhousie University, London School of Economics and Harvard University.
