Abstract
There has been a growing interest in the sustainability of energy conservation in major metropolitan areas throughout the world. This research is a policy-oriented interdisciplinary study which intends to answer the question that how to reduce household energy consumption across both residential and transport sectors from the behavioural perspective. The effects of several policies (including the telecommuting option, land-use policy, soft policy, the technology improvement/rebate program, and the social-context based policy) on the energy consumption are evaluated exclusively and collaboratively. Based on the trial policy studies, the importance of the policy system which targets cross sectors and packages different types of policies is emphasized. To support the policy development, a series of integrated models are proposed and built up to incorporate more behavioural mechanisms for household energy use (e.g., rebound effects, self-selection effects, inter- and intra- interactions of energy and time dimensions).
About the Speaker
Biying Yu is a postdoctoral fellow at Hiroshima University in Japan who is currently a visiting researcher at the UCL Energy Institute. Her research interests include the interdisciplinary research between transportation and other spheres; the decision making process during the energy consumption; interaction between energy consumption behaviour and land use, telecommuting, technology innovation, and social interaction; and energy system analysis
Next CTS Seminar
Mr Sunil Shastri (Centre for Environmental and Marine Sciences, University of Hull ) will be leading a seminar titled “Safer Shipping, Cleaner Seas: the role of competent international organisations ” at Imperial College on Wednesday 30 January @ 16:00
About the CTS Seminar Series
The CTS seminar series aims to facilitate discussion on current research topics in the transport field. Seminars are held jointly with our colleagues in the Centre for Transport Studies at University College London. They are usually held on Wednesday afternoons at Imperial College London or University College London.
Seminars are free of charge and open to all interested parties. Booking is not required.
