Hi everyone on this feed, I would be interested in taking this to my graduate school/ research teams and finding a way to get you both (Barbara and Judith) here to talk to Plymouth University students... perhaps we could go 'off-feed' and discuss...

Dear Barbara,
After a PhD in Chemistry and some years of work experience in academic research, I have just finished my MSc in Science Communication in September 2012 and I have worked in the field of TV production as Assistant Researcher for an indipendent TV company Darlow Smithson Producitons based in London (UK).
I have worked at a feature-length documentary for NOVA PBS, called "Earth From Space", which will be shown on the 13th of February.
I'd be more than happy to share this experience with the students as well as speaking about the Masters and the possibilities it offers for networking within the field.
For further requests, please, do not hesitate to contact me, and I will available for more specifications and clarifications at any time.
Kind Regards,
Antonio Torrisi

Dear Barbara,
I'm a TV science series and exec producer and would be happy to speak about science job in the Media.
I've worked in science media right through from research to director and now manage the teams and regularly interview staff. Inspired by the various young researchers and work experience students I've hired at different times, I've done a few careers fairs now. Being a world of short term contracts, the media can seem a real maze to get into, but there is a thirst for the right kind of science graduate, and it's very satisfying to engage with youngsters and help them along the way.
You can find out more about the programmes I've made, here: www.judithbunting.com<http://www.judithbunting.com/>, but, in brief, I worked for a long time at BBC Science - the UK's main science producer, and more recently at lots of different independent companies like Wall to Wall, Windfall Films and others. I have made programmes for broadcasters in UK, Europe and the US and, as well as the human sciences, my programmes have spanned space science, relativity and quantum mechanics, and geology - I developed the concept for Windfall's new series, Strip the City: http://www.windfallfilms.com/show/2446/strip-the-city.aspx which was devised as a way to tackle how geology influences city development and human behaviour.
If you think I c be useful to you, could you tell me a little more about what you are after? How many sessions, how many students per session etc? Also, I assume travel expenses are covered - is that right?
I look forward to hearing whether I can be of any assistance.
Best Wishes,
Judith

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Looking for speakers for a session on science jobs
Hi,
Would any of you be able to recommend speakers for a session on "How to apply for a job" at one of the largest scientific conferences in Europe? The meeting in question is the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (info for journalists, PIOs at http://media.egu.eu<http://media.egu.eu/>), which convenes over 11,000 students and researchers in the Earth, planetary and space sciences. The meeting is taking place in Vienna on 7-12 April.
This year, for the first time, we decided to organise a jobs session (http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2013/session/13112) to help the many young researchers at the Assembly find and apply for jobs.
I'd very much like to find a speaker with expertise in job applications for academic or research positions, a "jobs outside of academia" (industry, sci comms, etc.) expert, and possibly someone to give advice/tips on job interviews. I'll be covering the basics – CVs, cover letters, etc – myself.
Any suggestions for Europe/UK-based speakers would be most welcomed! Feel free to reach me by email or phone (see details below), if you know someone.
Best wishes,
Bárbara
