After a PhD in Chemistry and some years of work experience in academic research, I have just finished my MSc in Science Communication in September 2012 and I have worked in the field of TV production as Assistant Researcher for an indipendent TV company Darlow Smithson Producitons based in London (UK).
I have worked at a feature-length documentary for NOVA PBS, called "Earth From Space", which will be shown on the 13th of February.
I'd be more than happy to share this experience with the students as well as speaking about the Masters and the possibilities it offers for networking within the field.

I've worked in science media right through from research to director and now manage the teams and regularly interview staff. Hi,
Would any of you be able to recommend speakers for a session on "How to apply for a job" at one of the largest scientific conferences in Europe? The meeting in question is the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (info for journalists, PIOs at http://media.egu.eu<http://media.egu.eu/>), which convenes over 11,000 students and researchers in the Earth, planetary and space sciences. The meeting is taking place in Vienna on 7-12 April.
This year, for the first time, we decided to organise a jobs session (http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2013/session/13112) to help the many young researchers at the Assembly find and apply for jobs.
I'd very much like to find a speaker with expertise in job applications for academic or research positions, a "jobs outside of academia" (industry, sci comms, etc.) expert, and possibly someone to give advice/tips on job interviews. I'll be covering the basics – CVs, cover letters, etc – myself.
Any suggestions for Europe/UK-based speakers would be most welcomed! Feel free to reach me by email or phone (see details below), if you know someone.
