All,
After reading Richard's response to the low cost collections thread, I hope MCG listers will be interested in that we've taken up the challenge and used MODES' linked data term list endpoints, integrated into a WordPress presentation for the newly rebuilt Exploring Surrey's Past. Still very much a beta (isn't everything nowadays?) we worked with Richard on a bandwidth friendly JSON / AJAX approach so it won't hold up main page load whilst querying the servers. We have to recursively call into the servers to get the text for the terms, so that might be something to improve upon later.
see it query both MODES and Talis simultaneously at the base of the search results on : http://www.exploringsurreyspast.org.uk/collections/search/?s=painting

On the consumption side, Modes, Adlib and CALM have all implemented some sort of "web termlist" functionality, which allows users of their systems to select URLs from web-based authorities and include them in their data. (Unless our Linked Data is chock-full of standard URLs representing our shared understanding of cultural history, it won't be worth having. So we need a mechanism for getting those URLs into our data.) All the standard Modes termlists are now available as Linked Data (for anyone to use) at data.modes.org.uk [1].
