DEPARTMENT OF PREVENTIVE AND SOCIAL MEDICINE
OTAGO MEDICAL SCHOOL, DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND
Applications are invited for a full-time appointment in biostatistics in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Dunedin School of Medicine. This is a confirmation path position at Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level depending on qualifications and experience. Situated in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, this position is supported by the Division of Health Sciences to provide and co-ordinate biostatistical consulting services across the Division.
Applicants should have a doctorate in biostatistics, or a closely related discipline, and evidence of a commitment to research. The ability to communicate well with a wide range of people, one-to-one as well as in groups, and the aptitude and skills to lead a team are also required. The appointee will be responsible for providing biostatistical consulting services to researchers in the Division of Health Sciences based in Dunedin, and for providing leadership for the group of consulting biostatisticians, of which there are currently five in total. The consulting statisticians provide advice on the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of research to researchers in the Otago School of Medical Sciences, Dunedin School of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Schools of Pharmacy and Physiotherapy. There is potential for developing longer-term research collaborations.
In addition to consulting, the appointee will be expected to be involved in teaching biostatistics to postgraduate students in public health and related disciplines, providing research student supervision in biostatistics or public health, and conducting research. However, primary responsibility for delivering the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in biostatistics for public health and related disciplines lies with the three academic biostatisticians employed by the Department.
There are excellent opportunities for research collaboration in the Department, across the university, and with health sector organisations.
