Dear All,

My little bit of festive fun is proving popular. Here is a summary of the songs selected to date......

"Too much pressure" [by the Selector] for those overworked and over-full boxes
"Changes" [by David Bowie] for those in the public sector preparing to meet the 30-20 year rule challenge.
"Never Gonna Give You Up" - Rick Astley. Dedicated both to those of us dedicated to the RM/IM/IG cause, and to those who don't understand why you have to get rid of stuff!
"Search & Destroy" [by Iggy & the Stooges] because that's always a fun task.
"Why" [by Annie Lennox] - a seemingly standard response from business teams  when records management is mentioned...
"Bohemian Rhapsody" [by Queen] – no one can copy or replace the original therefore the perfect record
"Destruction" [by Lover Boy] - for those people who have been pushing hard to deal with backlogs this year.
"I'm a Believer" [by the Monkees] -  For all RM's
"Burn Baby Burn" [by Ash] - for all disgruntled RM's
"Fire" [by Arthur Brown] - for all RM's seeking a radical reduction in storage costs
"The 'Hallelujah' chorus" [from Handel's   'Messiah'] -  when people understand  why?
"Living in a Box" [by Living in a Box] - for RM's considering the cost of housing in Central London
"Going underground" [byThe Jam] - for users of certain storage companies
"Going deeper underground"  [by Jamiroquai] for users of Deepstore
"I’m going slightly mad" [byQueen] - for those who believe that you don't have to be mad to become a records manager (but it helps!)
"I’m going to Barbados"  [byTypically Tropical] for any records manager lucky enough to win the lottery
"I can’t get no satisfaction" [by the Rolling Stones] - for the disillusioned records manager
"You spin me right round (like a record)"  [by Dead or Alive]- for those of us that keep going round in circles!
"Big Fish Little Fish (CARDBOARD BOX)" by Bob the Builder - for the child inside all RM's
"Retention" [by Labrat] dedicated to everyone who is NOT a Records Manager.
"Won't Get Fooled Again" [by the Who]
“Put Your Records On” [by Corinne Bailey Rae] – for anyone who can be bothered to read this.
"Throw It All Away"[by Genesis] for any organisation without a records manager
"I Can't Tell You Why" [by the Eagles] dedicated to any records manager who has lost a box or a file
"Eight Days a Week" [by the Beatles] dedicated to all of you who are having to put in a little overtime to get the job done).
"My Best Was Never Good Enough" [by Bruce Springteen] for those facing another round of performance reviews
"Under Pressure" [by David Bowie and Queen] for all hardworking RM's out there!
"Give Me Just a Little More Time" [by Kylie Minogue] dedicated to all those project managers faced with some slippage at this time
"Communication Breakdown" [by Led Zepplin] for those struggling to convince their Board about the benefits of good RM
"Take a Chance On Me" [by Abba] for all independent consultants
"Private Investigation" [by Dire Straits] for those of you involved in legal records keeping and litigation at this time.
"We Never Change" [by Coldplay] for all our Archivist friends out there!
and last but not least, “Too much information” [by Sting] dedicated to everybody, really!

Feel free to add to my list and come up with your own Xmas dedications too...
Have a great Xmas and 2013!
 Best Wishes,
Paul

Subject: Desert Island Discs - RM Xmas Special
Dear All,
Here is a little bit of festive fun to get you in the mood for Xmas (however, any scrooges out there need read no further).... One of the most popular programs on BBC radio 4 is Desert Island Discs, where invited guests identify the songs/music that they would like to take with them on a desert island. They explain a little about what the songs mean to them and sometimes dedicate them to someone special. As a little bit of Xmas Fun I started to compile a list of Songs for Records Managers, and hope that some of you may be able to contribute too:
"Private Investigation" [by Dire Straits] for those of you involved in legal records keeping and litigation at this time.
and last but not least, "We Never Change" [by Coldplay] for all my Archivist friends out there!
Feel free to add to my list and come up with your own Xmas dedications too... Have a great Xmas and 2013!
Best Wishes,
Paul
