Last night's moon was gibbous, but I do feel the skies are brighter here, and, yes, sometimes when the moon is so very full it has some kind of reaching into the room, and sleep, effect, even with a solid curtain closed. I will look up when in Melbourne again. Last time I was there, just a couple of weeks back, it was a bright half moon, for sure. But in the city so slightly less clear. And I am rarely not in the city when there.
The moon and stars out in the desert are something else. The whole sky. Thanks, Max, for this note from your son. I can well imagine that difference between the two directors as well. I met, in passing, some of the cast of Ten Canoes, including Crusoe Kurddal, at its premiere in Sydney few years ago. They seemed, to an extent, comfortable with de Heer and the other white crew. Not that they seemed that comfortable travelling in lifts and being exposed to the usual white guy opening night schtick. And they were Yolgnu speakers so we mainly smiled. And it was brief, merely an impression. But de Heer seems fine from what else I've seen, around this town.

Every object in their world is divided by sun and moon totems, so the eclipse had massive significance for them, and they were serious about creating a Balander and yolgnu "coming together as one" event, with us white fellas welcomed into their world. Great to dance with david gulpilil and his people. Heard stories of working with Rolf de Heer, who they love and baz luhrmann who disappointed.'
