An opportunity is available to join the Committee of the Library and Information History Group. We are one of CILIP's oldest special interest groups, and are the only group devoted to the study of the history of information, the history of libraries and librarianship. Although a relatively small group, we are very active, and, thanks to royalties from our journal, are able to support a full programme of events, publications, awards, and research activities.
Our Treasurer, Kathleen Ladizesky, steps down from the end of 2012, so we are seeking a numerate volunteer to look after the Group’s accounts from January 2013. You do not need any formal accountancy experience or qualifications to be a Group Treasurer, just to be reasonably competent with figures and comfortable with a spreadsheet. Templates are all set up and Kathleen is leaving things in a very organised state. Support is provided by CILIP’s finance department. The Treasurer manages the Group’s bank account, keeps full records of all payments, invoices, and VAT, liaises with CILIP finance, and participates fully in committee business, advising particularly on budgetary matters. From 2013, the committee will meet four times a year: two face-to-face meetings, and two online meetings. Online meetings, which take place on the committee’s discussion board on the Group’s website, are held over a period of two weeks to allow opportunity for all to participate. The 2013 face-to-face meetings will be on 13 May in Birmingham and 4 November in London. Travel expenses are reimbursed. (Please note: under CILIP Group rules, the Treasurer must be a member of CILIP.) This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone undertaking CILIP qualifications to broaden their knowledge of a wide range of different libraries, though we welcome applications from candidates at any stage of their careers.
Please contact the Chair, Kathryn McKee, if you are interested in the position (email [log in to unmask] ; daytime telephone 01223 339393).
For more information about the Group's activities, see our website www.lihg.org.
All are welcome to register on the site and participate in discussions.
