I would second that - we could write access guide after access guide,
but user, I am sure, will neither know nor care what a federation is and
which one they belong to! I have been provided with a WAYFless URL by
Eduserv that does seem to have circumvented this, however, so that might
be worth pursuing.

On a separate note, I have been informed by a number of users that the
e-mail sent out to those with account that the URL noted in the e-mail
throws up an error message "unknown or unusable identity provider".

Ale

Has Elsevier considered NOT asking users to chose between different
types of federations but instead having a type-ahead search box that
goes across all federation metadata, which is the standard now in most
discovery services such as the Shibboleth Embedded Discovery Service and
DiscoJuice? Expecting users to know which federation they are in,
especially with the unhelpful language around Athens which confuses the
concept of technology and federation, does not seem to be a very
sensible approach moving forward and is certainly not one that is
recommended by the NISO Espresso guidelines, which is the only real
standard in this space at the moment.

Nicole

have to log in through the UK Federation. We have just sent personalized
links to these users that will allow them to transfer their Athens
profile to a profile associated with their UK Federation login - we had
originally planned to send these messages early in the day but decided
to wait until we had resolved the major issue mentioned before. We
advise that Athens users who log into SD/Scopus through the UK
Federation to NOT use "Activate Personalization" _before_ getting this
message and clicking the link in it.
