In the palaeontology collection of Doncaster Museum some fossils have been
found labelled as being from Cropwell Butler in the borough of Rushcliffe,
Nottinghamshire. They include marine reptile remains such as a partial forefin
of an ichthyosaur. A search of the literature shows that no fossil material has
been published from this site before but neighbouring Cropwell Bishop has been
listed as yielding fossils.
Have you heard of either locality before? Do you have any accounts of material
from either of these locations, or does your collection contain specimens?
The only other material we have heard of from either of these localities is
plesiosaur material from Cropwell Bishop, possibly now at Wollaton Hall which
we will be investigating. If you know of any other material or references,
please get in touch. Many thanks, we appreciate your help.
With best wishes, Nigel Larkin & Dean Lomax.
