Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On Thursday the 20th of December at 18.15pm - 20.30pm, 'Death and Trauma' will take place at The Swedenborg Hall, 20 Bloomsbury Way, London, WC1A 2TH, featuring contributions from a panel of keynote speakers including Professor Margaret Iversen (University of Essex), Broomberg and Chanarin, Dr Jennifer Pollard (University of the Arts London) and Professor Robert Eaglestone (University of London, Royal Holloway).

'Death and Trauma' is the second in the series of events 'Death and the Contemporary', hosted by Dr Georgina Colby (University of Westminster) and myself. Through plenary discussions with keynote writers, visual artists and theorists, 'Death and the Contemporary' seeks to explore issues surrounding the representation of death in contemporary culture. The first sold-out event, 'Death and Space', was held in the Deadhouse at Somerset House on the 23rd of October 2012, featuring contributions by Professor Tom Hunter (University of the Arts London), Professor David Bate (University of Westminster), Professor Robert Hampson (University of London, Royal Holloway) and Dr Andrea Brady (Queen Mary, University of London).

The twenty-first century has witnessed a proliferation of work in the areas of trauma, and it is widely acknowledged that we live in a post-traumatic culture. How has trauma impacted on the philosophical issues surrounding death? Please join our esteemed panelists in a stimulating exploration of some of the issues surrounding the representation of death and trauma in contemporary culture.

The following links contain further information about 'Death and the Contemporary' and ticket sales for 'Death and Trauma'. Tickets for the event are modestly priced at £5 or £3 concession including a glass of wine or a soft drink.

I hope to see you there if you can make it.

Best wishes,
Anthony Luvera
