ESRC PhD North West Doctoral Training Centre (NWDTC) CASE Studentship 2013

The Faculty of Health and Medicine, Lancaster University offers an exciting opportunity for an ESRC fully-funded +3 collaborative studentship for PhD research.
The prevalence of dementia in ethnically diverse communities, and the extent of inequalities in the access to care services: a study in Blackburn with Darwen, North West England
Suitably qualified candidates are invited to apply for this CASE studentship which is a collaboration between the Faculty of Health and Medicine at Lancaster University, and Blackburn with Darwen (BwD) Borough Council (Public Health Directorate), Lancashire. The studentship covers full fees plus a Basic Maintenance Grant (£13,590 p.a.) and a small contribution for research costs.
The CASE studentship aims to identify inequalities in the current pathways for dementia diagnosis and access to care within ethnically diverse communities. There is an opportunity to:
• develop research skills and experience working in diverse populations
• benefit from experience in a public health work placement.
Candidates will need to demonstrate a committed interest in and some experience:
• in the field of ageing research, dementia and public health
• an interest in working in black and ethnic communities
• an interest in mental health and health inequalities as a public health issue, particularly in older people.
The studentship will be supervised by a team lead by Dr Amanda Bingley at Lancaster University and Mr. Ken Barnsley (Head of Corporate Research) at Blackburn with Darwen.
Candidates must satisfy ESRC's academic and residential eligibility requirements and be UK or EU citizens who have been resident in the UK for three years. Further information on eligibility can be downloaded from the ESRC web site:
