Dear colleagues,
We have just begun a search for two faculty positions in
the context of a Biomolecular Imaging cluster hire (five
positions in the next three years). One of the positions
we are aiming to fill this year emphasizes x-ray
crystallography (the other one NMR). You can see the
relevant text below and here is a link to the
announcement:

Dear Colleague:
Stony Brook University is conducting a search for two
tenure-track faculty members at the Assistant Professor
level as part of a new Biomolecular Imaging Cluster
initiative. During the next three years, the cluster will
recruit five junior faculty whose research interests span
a range of imaging modalities, including NMR spectroscopy,
X-ray spectroscopy and imaging, ultrahigh resolution light
microscopy, electron cryomicroscopy, and positron emission
tomography coupled with radiotracer synthesis. Academic
appointments for cluster faculty will be based on their
areas of research and will be in the Departments of
Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacological
Sciences and/or Neurobiology and Behavior. This year we
are focusing on scientists with expertise in Structural
Biology, especially high-field NMR or X-ray
crystallography. More details about the Cluster hire
initiative can be found at:
http://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/provost/ClusterHireInitiative.html.
Stony Brook has established itself as a major teaching and
research university. We have an outstanding faculty, a
modern campus and state-of-the-art facilities for
research. The recent purchase of a new 850 MHz NMR and
our close proximity to Brookhaven National Laboratory,
where NSLS II is currently being built, make Stony Brook
particularly attractive to Structural Biologists. In
addition, the School of Medicine is currently building the
Medical and Research Translation building, which will be a
focal point for translational research and bioimaging.
Stony Brook is located 60 miles east of New York City.
The climate is mild and local public schools are
excellent. The Stony Brook area is developing as a major
high technology area of small business firms and offers
numerous employment opportunities. Located along the
northern shores of Long Island, the Stony Brook area is a
desirable place to live.
As part of our continuous commitment to research
excellence and expansion, generous start-up funds,
competitive salary, modern laboratory space and
substantial resources are available. Below is a copy of
the position advertisement. We would greatly appreciate
it, if you could forward this announcement to individuals
that you feel appropriate for this opportunity. Review of
applications will begin Dec 1, 2012 and continue until the
positions are filled. Applications and letters of
recommendation can be submitted electronically via
AcademicJobsOnline (posting ID#2332),
https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/2332.
