I'm looking for advice - please...
1.) As the archivist of a charity I am responsible for what's a small but varied collection. The materials are kept in a whole bunch of what look like good boxes. I'm told these will probably need changing as they're probably not archive quality. BUT but I caught sight of a demonstration on YouTube by Dr Ika Willis of the Penguin Archive at Bristol Univ. who was using just my boxes! So, I'm heartened that these might be OK to use, but please, advice on how to test to see if the boxes are acid-free/lignin-free?
2.) Which suppliers can sell me something to test paper for acid-free & lignin-free? I've tried the main four (Conservation by Design; Conservation resources; Preservation Equipment; Secol) but they don't seem to stock e.g. ph pens, and anyway how do you test for lignin-free?
3.) and apart from the main four who else is there in the UK best placed to buy archive quality A4 copy paper etc.?
Budgets are tight but I need the right stuff.
Thank you
