> Position: Visiting Docent in Social Anthropology, one year fixed term, after which a permanent tenure (6 years) will be evaluated.
> Location: Riga Stradins University, Department of Communication Studies, Riga, Latvia

> Time: the candidate is expected to start working at RSU from February, 2013
>
> Main duties: The candidate will be expected to participate in the work of the department, teach at the postgraduate (masters) level (with some courses also taught at the undergraduate level), supervise student work, develop new courses. The candidate will also be expected to actively engage in grant-seeking activities, participate in on-going research projects and engage in some planning, development and administrative tasks.

> The candidate will be expected to be able to teach courses in the following areas:
> Kinship
> Religion
> Ethnography of a region in which the candidate has done a substantial ethnographic fieldwork.

> Experience in any of the following fields will be considered an additional advantage:
> Anthropology of mass media
> Health communication
> Medical anthropology/sociology
> Anthropology of sex and gender

> Latvian language is not a prerequisite for this position but will be considered an advantage.

> Minimal requirements:
> the candidate will hold a PhD degree in social/cultural anthropology. In case the PhD is in other field, substantial experience (publications, field-work) in social anthropology should be demonstrated.
> have at least three years of teaching experience at the university level
