FRENCH STUDIES AND LINGUISTICS FINANCIAL SUPPORT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN

For the 2013-2014 academic year, the Department of French and Italian at The University of Texas at Austin is pleased to offer scholarship packages of $25,000 annually for up to six years of graduate study in French Linguistics. Applications for graduate admissions are currently being accepted!
Though funding packages may vary from student to student, a typical 2013-2014 Walther package is disbursed as follows:
1st Year
Julia Emerson Walther Fellowship consisting of $25,000 annual stipend, a full tuition award, and additional scholarship funding of $1,204 that may be used to offset the cost of student health insurance
2nd Year
Teaching Assistantship in which the student assists a primary instructor in one class per term for an annual total of $25,000: scholarships and the TA stipend totaling $20,000, summer research support of $5,000, full tuition awards, and UT insurance benefits
3rd Year
Assistant Instructorship in which the student teaches one class per term for an annual total of $25,000: scholarships and the AI stipend totaling $20,000, summer research support of $5,000, and full tuition awards, and UT insurance benefits
4th Year
Assistant Instructorship in which the student teaches one class per term for an annual total of $25,000: scholarships and the AI stipend totaling $20,000, summer research support of $5,000, and full tuition awards, and UT insurance benefits
5th Year
Assistant Instructorship in which the student teaches one class per term for an annual total of $25,000: scholarships and the AI stipend totaling $20,000, summer research support of $5,000, and full tuition awards, and UT insurance benefits
6th Year

All students are eligible to receive up to $1,000 annually to present work at academic conferences.
Students who choose to embark on programs of work culminating in a Ph.D. in six years or less are eligible for additional scholarships in the amounts of $15,000 with Ph.D. in four years, $10,000 with Ph.D. in 5 years and $5,000 with Ph.D. in six years.
To be eligible for Summer Reserch Scholarships, students work with their mentors to develop summer study or research proposals. These proposals are submitted in early spring for approval by the graduate advisors. The completed projects are reviewed in the fall.
