1. NEW: Women and Politics in the Media Directory Project
2. NEW: Renew your W&P membership online using Paypal
3. October blog traffic
Hello all,
There have been some exciting new developments that we wanted to pass on.
1. NEW: Women and Politics in the Media Directory Project
As you might know there has been coverage of the lack of women in the
media, and in particular a lack of women being consulted and quoted on
women‘s issues and a lack of women academics in the media.
There was also coverage of women scientists addressing a lack of women
scientists represented in Wikipedia entries
(http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2012/oct/19/wikipedia-edit-a-thon-women-scientists).
We felt that as the Women and Politics Specialist Group we could
contribute to solving the problem of a lack of women academics in the
media. To that end we are launching a project to build a directory of
women academics who study politics and government to be made available to
the media. To make sure that we would produce a useful directory, we
consulted with media producers to find out what information they needed to
make it easier to find women experts. The form has been designed to
collect information needed by the media.
The Women and Politics website now has a page devoted to this project.

In the coming weeks we intend to launch this project with a press release.
We are also looking for our members to spread the word and pass on the
information to other women academics in any area of politics or government
who are willing to be contacted by the media.
We would like to invite you to have a look at the page and at the form and
provide us with comments and feedback. And, of course, if you are willing
to be listed in the directory please fill out the form and send it in!
After a few weeks of recruitment we will be contacting members of the
media with the directory and provide them with updates on additions to the
directory.
2. NEW: Renew your W&P membership online using Paypal
The next big change to the website is our online membership subscription
page. We’ve signed up with Paypal to make it easier for people to become
members of our specialist group.
3. October blog traffic
Finally, we wanted to update you on the group’s blog. We’ve seen steady
growth in visits to the website since we started the content aggregation
service. Just a few statistics to let you know how we’ve been doing.
Here are the total number of visits by months since the start of the year.
The content aggregation project started in May.
