David Ferry choked up slightly as he accepted the poetry award for “Bewilderment: New Poems and Translations,” published by the University of Chicago Press. He said he had amazing rivals in his category, and his one advantage was being much older. “My only hope was a preposterous pre-posthumous award,” he said, “and I guess that is what I have won here.”
