medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
That's interesting - I had been wondering about churches that were left unused and becoming derelict as a result of population shrinkage in the C14. There's also the earlier case of churches that were demolished when the Cistercians took estates into their own hands and removed tenants.
I must admit I'm still surprised that the church was so relaxed about reuse of buildings, given the emphasis on consecration in the first place, but I do accept the evidence.

Thus would probably be regarded as "late":
On 26 January 1426, by letters patent, the Bishop of Winchester annexed
the church of Walesworth to the church of Widley. “The Church of
Walesworth, until it can be adequately repaired, or its site if it has
fallen into ruin, is to be surrounded with a wall or hedge and protected
from any profane or secular use, in memory of its previous consecration.”
