Do you know, or are keen to develop some knowledge of, html? Would you
like to be involved in the production of the sector's leading open access
journal? If the answer to both questions is, Yes, and you are happy to
volunteer your labour, then I'll be interested to hear from you -

As most of you will know, Information Research is a completely free,
completely open access journal - there is no subscription, no author
charges and you don't even have to register to read it.
With no income, the journal has always operated on the basis of volunteer
labour and we have a team of six Associate Editors and six copy-editors,
all of whom contribute their time voluntarily. I'm now looking for people
who know, or who are interested to learn html (we now use html5), so that
authors will no longer be required to submit the final version in html. We
published in the last four issues, 38 papers - this varies year on year
depending upon whether or not we have an ISIC conference proceedings - so,
if we had, say, six layout editors, they might expect to have to deal with
six or seven papers a year. Of course, we may get more submissions when
authors no longer have to do the work!
The process of selection if we get many volunteers will be as follows: 1)
send me a expression of interest; 2) I send you the template and the style
sheet used by the journal and an author's paper; 3) you convert the paper
to html5 within the template; 4) return the converted file to me for
checking; 5) best conversions win :-)
What the template and the css file produce can be seen at any time in the
last issue of the journal at:
http://informationr.net/ir/17-3/infres173.html and the template can be
downloaded from http://informationr.net/ir/template.html
