The Departments of Statistics and Mathematics at the University of Auckland invite applications for an academic position in Mathematical Finance at the level of Lecturer (comparable to Assistant Professor positions in North America). The position would be split across the two Departments, 70% Statistics and 30% Mathematics.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching programmes at all levels, including the areas of Probability, Quantitative Finance, and Stochastic Processes. Applicants should have a completed PhD, an active research programme, and record of publication in mathematical finance or a related field, demonstrated experience in University level teaching, and the ability to undertake successful postgraduate research supervision.
The Departments of Statistics and Mathematics comprise the largest such grouping of mathematical scientists in New Zealand. The Faculty of Science, in which both Departments sit, has world-class research strengths across the social sciences, computational sciences, life sciences and physical sciences. It offers a wide range of subjects and specialisations to more than 7,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students studying across 10 schools and departments. The Department of Statistics has 40 academic staff of whom 25 have positions that include substantial research components. The Department covers a wide range of areas of statistics with particular strengths in statistical computing (it is the birthplace of R), statistical ecology, biostatistics, and sample survey theory. It has strong Bayesian and applied probability groups. Researchers in the department have well established collaborations with academics in top ranked universities throughout the world and this work is supported by travel allowances.
