Statistical Geneticist/Computational Biologist/Computer Scientist
MRC Band 4 Salary £30,124 - £35,860 per annum inclusive London allowance
The Clinical Sciences Centre is an Institute of the Medical Research Council, based at the Hammersmith Campus, with close links to Imperial College, London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
A 3 year postdoctoral position is available at the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre to work in the Integrative Genomics and Medicine group headed by Dr. Enrico Petretto.
The Group's main objective is to develop and apply systems-genetics approaches to complex disease. In particular we use systems-level approaches to investigate the regulation of pathways and networks and predict the consequences of (epi) genetic variants on complex pathophysiological phenotypes.
Current projects in the lab include: reverse-engineering strategies for regulatory gene networks in multiple tissues and disease state; integrated Bayesian modeling approaches for deeper analyses of the genetics of common diseases; systems-level comparative genomics; global transcriptional profiling and methylation analysis using next generation sequencing; network-based drug discovery to find new targets for complex disease.
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (statistical genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology or computer science) and have a strong background in statistical genetics, bioinformatics or computational biology. Proven publication record, with at least one first author publication in a peer-reviewed international journal is essential, as well as experience in statistical and computational analyses of large-scale genomics datasets. Experience in development of computational algorithms is an advantage.
This post is a Career Development Fellowship to support post-doctoral scientists in early or changed career training and help establish them as successful research scientists in their chosen field. The Clinical Sciences Centre (CSC) is an institute funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and is a division of the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London, a thriving research environment with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including computing clusters and state-of-the-art genomics facilities.
