Do you allow the PhD students to gain AFHEA even if they are not actually involved in teaching? My assumption was very much that AFHEA denotes at least some actual involvement in Teaching / Learning Support activity, whereas PhD students will not necessarily be in a situation to do that. Apologies if I have misunderstood your message.

The course is mandatory for all PhD researchers who are expected to teach and will be accredited at AFHEA when our CPD framework is validated. Many of the participants go on the access the PG Cert LTHE the next academic year

This leads to AFHEA after completion of the coursework. It is open to all PhD students with a teaching / seminar / demonstrating commitment, and some of our participants have successfully moved on to permanent academic posts at Roehampton.
