Prescriptions at all levels require a POV.
Perhaps I am alone or mistaken when I try to point out that even in his
simple (somewhat sexist sounding) case "by association" that Terry skips
over the point that any proposed principle requires a point of view.
Take the case for climate change. The evidence is surely in. What
principles can be derived? If I'm an oil company, my principle might be
obfuscation to maximize shorter-term profits. If I'm a developing country,
my point of view might be, "you others have had your chance to pollute, now
it's our turn." If I'm most concerned about our neighbors in time, I would
be working to reverse or slow down the process expeditiously.
Given the research findings to an advanced machine wouldn't really change
anything. The first step in the algorithm would still need to be: what's my
point of view?
