Hi
Members of this list might be interested in this post to the jisc-repositories list - given the amount of OERish content that is in MS powerpoint and MS word, I imagine OER folk also have a stake in ensuring there are conversion options available.

Subject: Please can you support my Open Letter to Microsoft?
Dear all, following my adventures converting old PowerPoint 4.0 files to a more modern format, I have written an Open Letter to Tony Hey of Microsoft asking that specifications for older formats be added to Microsoft's Open Specifications Page (see http://unsustainableideas.wordpress.com/2012/10/22/open-letter-ms-obsolete-formats/). I would really appreciate your support for this Open Letter. It should only take a minute or so to add your support by adding a brief comment to the post. If you don't include a link it should be approved automatically.
If you could encourage others to support this, I would be grateful. I will be trying various lists, and apologise if this reaches you by more than one route. Thanks in anticipation,
