Subject: Conference panel cfp: Deviant Bodies: Disability on Film.
Dear colleagues,
I'm hoping to put together a panel on the cinematic treatment of physical disability, to submit to the Screen conference next year, in Glasgow, UK (this sounds like a long way off, but the deadline is probably in December/January). I welcome any potential proposals on the topic - here are some possible, broad issues to be adressed, among many:
* representations of disability in relation to sexuality and/or gender
* the role of film in the construction of bodily 'abnormality'
* audiences and screen disability: horror and desire
* filmic embodiment and its relation to able-bodiedness
* the aesthetics of normative beauty, and its contestations
* disability and genre
* disability and censorship
* narratives of disabilities: functions and trajectories of disabled characters
* disability on film and activism
* disability and stardom
Should you be interested, please email me a short abstract (250 words) at [log in to unmask]
All the best,
Elisabetta
