CALL FOR PAPERS: Panel on "the intersection of power, identity, and urban space" for the American Association of Geographers (AAG) meeting in April, 2013 in Los Angeles (CA).
Co-organised by Taylor Easum (New York University), Non Arkaraprasertkul (Harvard University) and Marijn Nieuwenhuis (Warwick University)
We are looking for submissions from a variety of theoretical, methodological, and disciplinary perspectives that address the formation of power and/or identity through the urban environment. We are particularly interested in contributions which deal with specific urban sites or cities that were transformed or are in the process of transformation as a consequence of modern nation state formation after a period of colonization. The scholars already committed to this panel focus on specific urban sites and cities in East and Southeast Asia. We, however, very much welcome submissions from other geographical contexts and encourage comparative case studies. Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be sent to Taylor Easum ([log in to unmask]) before Wednesday, October 17th if interested and/ or for more information.
N.B.: If your abstract is accepted for submission, you will be required to become a member of AAG and register for the conference by October 24, 2012. Note that there are reduced registration fees for students and underemployed members. Details can be found here: http://www.aag.org/cs/annualmeeting.
