Job posting: Programme Officer (Russia)- International Human Rights Programme (Based in London)
Oak Foundation (www.oakfnd.org) commits its resources to address issues of global social and environmental concern, particularly those that have a major impact on the lives of the disadvantaged.
The International Human Rights Programme is seeking to appoint a Programme Officer to support its activities in Russia (75%) and other parts of the world (25%). The programme currently has over 120 active grants operating worldwide and a portfolio of around 12 grants in Russia. An outline of the program’s priorities can be found on the website.
The position involves oversight of a substantial and well-respected portfolio of grants to organisations. It includes:
· Managing the responsibilities of a grant portfolio from point of initial assessment, drafting of recommendations for support for consideration by trustees and the acquittal of the completed grant.
· Monitoring and evaluation of grants including through regular site visits.
· Strategic development of the programme including through participation in planning exercises, professional conferences and seminars and presentation to trustees;
· Development of a strategy to address current shifts in the operating environment for Russian human rights activism.
· Liaison and representation with peer donors.
To be considered for this post you must:
· Hold valid EU working papers and/or the right to work in the UK;
· Be able to work full-time from Oak’s office in Central London.
· Travel up to 30% of your working time for up to two weeks at one time.
Essential Skills:
--Fluency in written and spoken English and Russian.
--Minimum 7-10 years experience working for a human rights NGO or international institution.
--A solid knowledge of the principles underpinning the international Human Rights Programme, an interest in international affairs and specific knowledge of the contemporary Russian context;
--An ability to write concisely, coherently and interestingly in English.
--An ability to work both independently and as part of a close team.
--The confidence and presence to conduct meetings and negotiate with some of the leading figures in the human rights movement.
--Sound judgement, common sense, maturity and tact.
--Computer skills: word processing, database entry and internet based research.
