Hi Chris,
We have been doing this since 2007 filed in number order using student ID (simple for students to understand). At our 2 main sites both areas are protected by RFID security gates (1 with Wenzl gates that lock on alarm) and have a RFID self service unit in the secure area. We have found that this stops the reservations wandering out of the areas as only the user who placed the reservation can borrow it and other who try are denied by the self service unit or set the alarm off. 1 site uses pamphlet boxes like Northampton the other uses slips but because they are both behind security gates very few reservations go astray.

Do those who operate this system file the books by reader name, barcode number, or a combination?
We are worried that filing by name infringes data protection legislation, but think filing by student number or barcode might make them more difficult to find and lead to more flicking through the shelve looking for titles.
Also, do you use wrappers or not?
Chris
