Subject: Check out new EmployAble website!
EmployAble: A World Without Barriers has a newly updated website,
www.hawaii.edu/employable, and several online surveys about employment for
people with disabilities, http://www.cds.hawaii.edu/employable/survey/. The
Second Life component of the project is still under construction, but is due
to be launched early in 2013.
EmployAble is a model virtual reality employment orientation and support
center using Second Life as a platform to provide training, networking,
mentoring and employment resources for people with disabilities and
employers. One group that the project will target, Veterans with Traumatic
Brain Injury, often have difficulty finding and maintaining employment due
to the complex nature of their disabilities. EmployAble is the first such
center of its kind, and will serve as a model for future centers aimed at
increasing the employment rate of persons with disabilities.
EmployAble is a project of the Center on Disability Studies at the
University of Hawaii at Manoa, in partnership with Virtual Ability and
Abilicorp, and funded by the Kessler Foundation (www.kesslerfoundation.org).
EmployAble is guided by a belief that through a combination of technological
innovation and collaboration with employers, representatives of the
disability community, and people with disabilities (PWD), a practical and
sustainable employment tool can be created.
Please take a moment to check out the updated website and fill out a survey.
If you would like to speak to someone directly about the project, please
