I'm new to this so please bear with me!
I am a PhD student (non-disabled) in the UK and I'm looking for good references with regard to stereotyping as well as barriers to e-learning for disabled e-learners.
This is for a small literature review which I'm doing as a pilot study for further empirical work next year.
I've gone back to the literature of the 70s and the origins of the social model and am looking at work from Finkelstein, Oliver, Barnes, Martyn Cooper and others but now that I've honed in on a particular focus, I'd like more specific pointers. I've just had the Routledge Handbook of Disabled Studies delivered and that is keeping me very busy!
By looking at the historical and contemporary landscapes, I've narrowed down the stereotype to 1 only as this is a very small project.
The one I'm focusing on is the stereotype of 'need' and 'dependency' ... and how this feeds into e-learning scenarios as a (further) barrier to education, particularly in the assumptions made by educators as to what it is the disabled student 'needs' (mostly coming from a non-disabled viewpoint, well-intentioned, but enough, good enough or even appropriate?).
Would very much appreciate pointers to good resources as I want to do a really good, worthwhile job of this.
