RDA gives hardly any instructions about the form of notes, so I'm taking
it that we are free to do whatever works for us. On the whole I'm
sticking to the old recipes, because they are quick and clear.
Best wishes,
Bernadette

We've been discussing this here at my library, actually, as we had a
question about it. We couldn't find a definite instruction but we've
seen about a dozen full level RDA records which use the [] square
brackets in the 504 bibliography note where the isn't pagination on the
book.
