I learnt this in LC training module 2 just this week
Recording Dimensions
Follow the symbol with the ISBD full stop (i.e., period) only if a 490
field is present in the record.
Because "cm" and "mm" are symbols and not abbreviations, the symbol
should be followed by a full stop only when there is a 490 in the
bibliographic record. This requirement is related to ISBD presentation
of information.

Is punctuation important?
I'm not sure if it's my lack of familiarity with MARC, but there seems
to be more punctuation added in the examples than I would have expected.
Obviously "cm" shouldn't be "cm." but does other terminal punctuation
matter, or is that just dependent on the system in use?
