I agree about the blurb/advertising aspect! Hence my reluctance. But then RDA defines a subtitle as "information that appears in conjunction with, and is subordinate to, the title proper". And it is in a very subtitle-y kind of place on the title page.

Example of applying cataloguer judgement rather than following the rules to the letter?

I don't feel too happy about putting a lot of weight on that example.
I'm not sure why the phrase was taken to be OTI rather than an edition
statement - perhaps something to do with the layout?

The statement in Example 8 is verging on blurb/advertising. Since it
contained edition information I just extracted that. Otherwise I would
have seriously considered treating it as a quoted note rather than as
any kind of title information. I don't have very strong feelings in
this case, but I'm sure we will come across examples where there are
much, much longer and more blurbish statements between the title proper
and the statement of responsibility and I would be very reluctant to
treat them as title information.

Best wishes,
Bernadette

Edition statement:

RDA 2.5.2.6 has an example (4th one down) which I used as the rationale
behind this one.
"If edition statement is integral to other title information, record it
as such and do not record a further designation of edition".

The 4th example says "a revised and augmented edition of...", so I took
that. However, I then can't include 'fully revised and updated' as I'm
not allowed to include another edition statement.

BUT I object to treating this as a subtitle!! Feels wrong on so many
levels!

Hi Helen

I was very unsure about your first point too. In the end I didn't put it
as a subtitle, because I'd effectively recorded the same information in
the designation of edition, and in note on title...
But I wasn't convinced that was correct.

No. 8.

Issues:
1) is that edition statement a subtitle?? (I have lots of notes going
back-and-forth on this!)
2) I went with previous editions being related expressions - ?
