Dear ARLIS members,
This is the second call for nominations for the positions of ARLIS Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer and four ordinary members of Council for next year.
Council comprises the ARLIS Officers, elected Ordinary Members and the Chairs of the ARLIS Committees. There are four Ordinary Members who serve for a term of 4 years. The Officers and Ordinary Members are re-nominated each year and if there are more people standing than there are places on Council then an election is held. The nomination form is attached and needs to be returned to me by 31 October 2012. Officers and ordinary members of Council assume office directly after the 2013 AGM.
Serving on Council is a great way of getting more involved with your society, so please consider putting yourselves forward. Elizabeth James, Senior Librarian in the National Art Library Collections at the V & A, is serving her second year as an Ordinary Member of Council and describes her experience as follows:
"Unlike the rest of Council, which consists of Officers and Committee Chairs, Ordinary members do not have an a priori portfolio thus they have all their energy free for filling gaps (e.g. caretaking a committee lacking a chair), leading projects (e.g. organising networking events, reviewing membership or the website), and supporting the Chair of ARLIS in furthering the strategic aims of the organisation and the interests of all its members. With increasing pressure on daily workloads, and a challenging landscape of change to be addressed, the Ordinary Members' contribution has never been more important to ARLIS."
Please do get in touch with me if you have any questions.
Thanks & best wishes,
Vicky Brown, ARLIS Hon Secretary
