1.1 ALT-C 2012: Conference Publications available online

1.2 Robin Mason Fellowships
ALT has set up a fund to commemorate Robin Masons life. The purpose of
the fellowship fund is to support researchers who cannot otherwise come
to the annual conference.

2.3 OER13: Creating an OER Virtuous Circle, 26-27 March 2013
OER13 will take place at the University of Nottingham, renowned for its
Open Nottingham programme which has strategically embraced the agenda of
open access to teaching. The Conference programme will consist of an
engaging mix of refereed papers, workshops, symposia, posters and
demonstrations exploring the impact of OER on HE within the conference
themes.

2.4 altc2013 Building new cultures of learning

3.1 The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education has published
Chapter B3: learning and teaching of the UK Quality Code for Higher
Education.

3.2 Handbook of social media for researchers and supervisors
The goal of this handbook is to assist researchers and their supervisors
to adopt and use social media tools in the service of their research,
and, in particular, in engaging in the discourse of research. The
handbook presents an innovative suite of resources for developing and
maintaining a social media strategy for research dialogues.

3.3 Open Call for Fellowship Applications, Academic Year 2013-2014
The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University has
opened our yearly call for fellowship applications. This opportunity is
for those who wish to spend the 2013-2014 academic year in residence in

4.1 Registration now open for the 2nd European Immersive Education
Summit, 26 - 27 November 2012
The theme for the 2nd European Immersive Education (iED) Summit is:
'Immersive Education: combining creativity, art and pedagogy'. The
two-day event is open to the global academic and practitioner community
with interests in immersion, simulation, learning games, virtual reality
and augmented and mixed reality.

4.2 Using PebblePad to support Graduateness and Employability, Tuesday
6th November
A one-day event hosted by the University of Staffordshire, for PebblePad
users and interested others, exploring how policy and practice for
graduateness and employability is supported and enhanced through the use
of tools such as tags, collections, capabilities, custom forms... and
eportfolios!

4.3 Sonic Foundry, ALT Sponsoring member, will webcast the Sloan
Consortium's 18th Annual International Conference on Online Learning
The conference provides the latest research and best practices in online
and blended learning programs. Select sessions will be webcast live and
also will be archived for on-demand viewing post-conference. Sloan-C
expects about 1,100 of the 2,650 attendees to participate remotely.

4.4 Teaching online courses: 16 January - 15 February
The short, practical OCSLD course on online tutoring has been updated to
explore the potential of using publicly available online social spaces

4.5 Innovating Learning: using technology for greater access, different
content and better outcomes, Tuesday 4 December 2012
The annual digital learning conference brought to you jointly by NIACE
and the BBC, will take place at the BBCs flagship studios at MediaCity,
Manchester. It will feature a range of high profile speakers, including:
Eben Upton, Executive Director of Raspberry Pi foundation; Saul Nassé,

4.6 Making Video for Language Learning and Teaching, 17 November 2012
The Centre for English Language Teaching at the University of York are
running a workshop in collaboration with the Centre for Languages
Linguistics and Area Studies. This practical workshop will introduce ELT
professionals to the skills involved in making short video films to
support teaching and learning. It will explore how to develop an idea
into a film that can be exploited effectively in the classroom or in a
self-access context.

4.9 Come to the Mozilla Festival! 9-11 November 2012
The Mozilla Festival is a yearly celebration of learning and innovation.
Gathering passionate people like you to explore the web, learn together,

4.10 International Enhancement Themes Conference: Enhancement and Innovation

7.2 Social Media Handbook for Researchers and Supervisors
Vitae and The Open University, UK have launched a Handbook of Social
Media for Researchers and Supervisors: Digital technologies for
research dialogues. Funded through Vitae Innovate and developed by Dr
Shailey Minocha and Professor Marian Petre of the Centre for Research in
Computing, this handbook aims to assist researchers and their
supervisors to adopt and use social media tools in the service of their
